Tis the season to bake and bake and bake. In our Welcoming Kitchen we use canola oil and coconut oil and flaxseed meal and fruit purees to give our baked goods great texture. But ... even if you're a vegan, and even if you have allergies or intolerances, sometimes at this time of year, you might just yearn for that buttery flavor of your childhood.

Now, thanks to Soy-free Earth Balance, you can bring that buttery flavor back into your kitchen! Shortbread cookies and butter crusts are available to most everyone again. We will continue to use the ingredients that we have come to love over the years, but we'll also gladly add this yummy spread into our rotation.

We look forward to sharing some of our favorite holiday treats with you this month.

***Of note...we were not paid for this produt review or given samples...we just really love this product!

Happy Cooking!

  2. We do, too. And, when you scoop it out into a fancy little dish for a dinner party, nobody (even your fussiest guest) will bat an eye!

  4. Hi, nice blog! My family has no known allergies, but is looking into more organic eating. One question I have about this spread (which you may or may not be able to answer) since I am concerned more so with the inflammatory properties of the foods I eat - does this contain Omega 6's? I know that coconut oil is full of it, which is why I'm hesitant to use it in anything but the tiniest of quantities. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to seeing more recipies!

  5. I just looked at the package (from my fridge, naturally), and it promotes that it is a good source of Omega-3s, but does not mention Omega-6. I hope that's helpful! Also, if you don't need your foods to be gluten-free, you can always substitute flour made from wheat for the GF flours that we use. Just be sure to omit any xanthan gum if you're using wheat flour.

  6. i literally jumped up and down when i saw this product on the shelf. my dairy/soy/corn/wheat sensitive child could finally have "butter"! after much hoopla at our house we presented our son with a pancake with "butter" and his response after a bite was "i don't like butter." hysterical. we are putting it in lots of recipes though. thanks for the blog, i'll pass it on to my gfcf patients. :)

  7. To Baby John's Crib: I wanted to comment back to you about the omega 6 content of this product. It does contain safflour oil which is a source of omega 6 fatty acids; although, the other 3 oils that are blended to make this product have a favorable ratio or omega 3:omega 6. There is no coconut oil used in this product. I will contact the company and see if they can quantify the total omega 6: omega 3 ratio and get back to you!
